A founding member of WRA Pakistan, Mr. Ihatsham Akram served as the National Coordinator for 6 years before joining the Governing Body. A passionate champion of reproductive, newborn and child health, he has been instrumental in different policy reforms in Pakistan, including ensuring the inclusion of Misoprostol, Magnesium Sulphate, Cholorohyxedine in the essential drug list of first level care facilities in the health system of Pakistan.
Ihatsham has led citizen engagement for individual and community empowerment around voicing health demands with duty bearers at national, provincial and district levels. He has steered reforms such as the inclusion of patient rights and respectful maternity care in key maternal health policies. He has also led several research studies that have contributed to vital policy changes.
Ihatsham has played a critical role in securing safe motherhood and child health champions to speak with news and entertainment media, parliamentarians, national, provincial & district governments, departments, academia and civil society. He possesses national and international experience of developing & implementing several advocacy, behavioral change communication and citizen engagement strategies. He has served in a variety of roles for respected development organizations such as Palladium, Save the Children, British Council, National Rural Support Program, and the Ministry of Health Pakistan & Ministry of Public Health Afghanistan.
Ihatsham possesses Master Degrees in Public Health and Governance & Public policy. When not at work, he enjoys reading, sports, sightseeing, movie and live music.
