Citizen-led Accountability

As part of our work to amplify women’s voices and hold governments accountable to women’s and girls’ self-articulated needs for their health and rights, WRA’s Global Alliance followed in the footsteps of WRA India and launched the What Women Want campaign, hearing directly from 1.2 million women and girls around the world about what they needed most. The global findings were released at Women Deliver in June 2019 and will be an ongoing touchstone for our work.

Prior to that, WRA, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Save the Children and World Vision created the Citizen-Led Accountability Coalition to support citizens’ hearings to accelerate the delivery of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and commitments made under the UN Secretary General’s initiative, Every Woman Every Child.

More than 200 hearings have been held in over 20 countries and resulting recommendations have been shared with national political leaders and submitted as feedback for the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health.
