White Ribbon Alliance Commitment to Accelerate Gender Equality at Generation Equality Forum
From June 30 – July 2, 2021, leaders and activists around the globe will come together at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris to make game-changing commitments and bold actions under six Action Coalitions and the Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action. White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) is proud to be an Action Coalition Commitment Maker and announce our commitment to accelerate gender equality under the bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) Action Coalition.
Our Generation Equality Forum Commitment:
WRA will mobilize 2,000,000+ women and girls—in all their diversity, including trans, intersex and non-binary people—about information they want and need to make autonomous decisions about their health, bodies and well-being. Further, WRA will engage 500,000+ mobilized participants in on-going, direct action to influence sexual, reproductive, maternal and newborn health practices, policies, and programs—public and private—that help realize wants and enable informed choice free of violence, discrimination, and coercion in 10+ countries. Participants and community allies will also engage in a joint initiative to build confidence and skills to seek and distil information, ask questions, practice self-care, and negotiate safely in their everyday lives. A 25,000-person subset, including men and boys, service providers, and policymakers, will serve as campaign ambassadors, championing historically excluded people reaching for—and gaining—knowledge and power both personally and politically.
Our Commitment to Strengthen Our Movement:
WRA’s campaign to mobilize 2,000,000+ women and girls on their information wants and needs will be designed, driven, and led by persons often excluded from decision-making and who experience frequent injustice in terms of their bodily autonomy and sexual, reproductive, health and rights. WRA commits to recruiting and resourcing new member organizations, so at least 50% of participating Alliances and other campaign partners are dedicated to addressing the rights of, have reach to, and are headed by racial and ethnic minorities, indigenous women, adolescents, women and girls living with disability, women and girls living in humanitarian settings, trans, intersex, and non-binary people and/or other discriminated persons. These members will also comprise the campaign co-chairs and more than 50% of the steering committee.
About the Generation Equality Forum:
