I am playing my part for reproductive and maternal healthcare by making sure the voices of women and girls are heard at the highest levels.
Women and communities are now aware of their entitlements and have the confidence to place their demands before the duty bearers.
My name is Smita Bajpai and I am from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. I am an executive committee member of White Ribbon Alliance India, I work with CHETNA and coordinate the activities of White Ribbon Alliance Rajasthan.
With the utmost commitment and dedication to reproductive and maternal healthcare, I have worked to mobilize non-health civil society organizations to take up maternal health issues, strengthen the capacities of WRA partners and contribute to national advocacy efforts initiated by WRA India. One of my favorite memories of my time supporting WRA was the release of the Hamara Swasthya, Hamari Awaz (“Our Health, Our Voices”) report, which brought the maternal healthcare demands of 350,696 women to the highest authority.
Over the past 20 years, White Ribbon Alliance’s biggest achievement has been creating a global movement for the reduction of maternal mortality. WRA has been instrumental in bringing attention to maternal health and strengthening women’s agency. Women and communities are now aware of their entitlements and have the confidence to place their demands before the duty bearers. This creation of dialogue between women and community leaders has long-lasting impacts.
WRA is the only alliance around the world with such a clear focus and inclusive approach. In the future, I look forward to WRA expanding its scope to pick up more local issues, address new aspects of maternal health and turn them into global movements.
Thank youSmita Bajpai
for playing your part.
