Washington, DC, November 10, 2020 –

White Ribbon Alliance congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic victory in the 2020 United States Presidential Election. This momentous outcome, with a record number of people voting, demonstrates the power of citizen participation in creating a government reflective of their values. We especially celebrate Kamala Harris for shattering a centuries old glass ceiling as the first woman, Black and South Asian person elected to the second highest office in the nation, and thank her for her leadership in working to address unconscionable disparities in maternal morality for Black American women and other women of color.

We look forward to a Biden-Harris administration that will reengage with the global community to help solve the world’s most pressing problems, and joining forces to ensure that the right policies – including overturning harmful policies – are moved upon with urgency, to protect the health and rights of all women and girls and give the global health community its best chance for continued progress.

A commitment to protect, advance and expand maternal and reproductive health and rights is key to equity in the U.S. and in the world. WRA’s commitment to elevating women’s and girl’s demands for quality healthcare as they define it is stronger than ever. We look forward to working with the incoming administration to carry forward a strong tradition of U.S. leadership around the world promoting global health and catalyzing positive development.
