Changemaker:Dr. Hafizuddin Faqiree
I’m playing my part for reproductive and maternal healthcare by contributing technical assistance to WRA Afghanistan.
I became involved with White Ribbon Alliance because of the focus on maternal health.
I believe that working for mothers is a top priority.
My name is Dr. Hafizuddin Faqiree and I am from Afghanistan. I’ve served as the National Coordinator for White Ribbon Alliance Afghanistan since 2014. In Afghanistan, maternal deaths are very high, so I became involved with White Ribbon Alliance because of the focus on maternal health. I believe that working for mothers is a top priority.
My favorite time with WRA was conducting a citizen hearing event where WRA Afghanistan gathered around 120 individuals, including policy makers, donors, governmental bodies, community leaders and pregnant women. The participants discussed the importance of, and need for, an official Act for midwives and nurses through which they can regulate their professions and build their capacities.
After five years of dedicated advocacy, White Ribbon Alliance Afghanistan and our partners, the Government of Afghanistan established the Afghanistan Midwifery and Nursing Council, a professional regulatory body for midwives and nurses that will work to ensure that these professions are supported so that they can provide high quality care to people in Afghanistan.
Through our advocacy campaigns, White Ribbon Alliance has increased community awareness around maternal health and has mobilized donors and governmental bodies to pay more attention to the health of mothers.
Thank youDr. Hafizuddin Faqiree
for playing your part.
