I am playing my part for reproductive and maternal healthcare by pushing for policy change and budgeting increases in favor of reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health.
When I had my children, I had wonderful care from competent people, from loving people who really cared. It is not like that for every woman in Tanzania.
My name is Rose Mlay. I am a midwife and White Ribbon Alliance Tanzania’s National Coordinator.
In Tanzania, we have high numbers of maternal deaths and I feel for the mothers of my country. I was lucky because, when I had my children, I had wonderful care from competent people, from loving people who really cared. It is not like that for every woman in Tanzania – and that is why I fight, every day, for respectful maternity care and for quality maternal healthcare.
When I can say to a woman that, because of the efforts of White Ribbon Alliance and our partners, there is now a functioning health center in their community, providing lifesaving services, I am filled with such joy, because I know that when women think the health center near them is not functioning, they will give birth at home, risking their lives. What we do at White Ribbon Alliance, and what we have done for decades, is really lifesaving work.
Thank youRose Mlay
for playing your part.
