WRA Uganda World Population Day 2012

 

WRA Uganda celebrated World Population Day 2012 in Hoima District with the theme ‘Make Access to Reproductive Health Services a Priority: Address Key Challenges’. Government officials, MPs, Civil Society and Religious Leaders came together with White Ribbon Alliance members to promote reproductive health and raise awareness of health and development issues in Uganda.

Guest of Honour Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi who represented the President announced the government’s promise to increase health expenditure in the financial year 2013-2014 and to prioritise reproductive health services with the aim of addressing maternal and infant deaths.

To commemorate the day the WRA held an exhibition on safe motherhood, awareness of health services was promoted by service providers and health education messages were spread through dance, drama and songs. WRA members also participated in preparatory meetings on reproductive health for regional stakeholders in Kampala, disseminated info graphics and safe motherhood materials to stakeholder networks and participated in social media chats on the London Family Planning Summit.
