4. WRA Indonesia Expands Safe Motherhood Program

WRA Indonesia (APPI) has been granted an opportunity to conduct the Healthy and Clean Life Behavior in the Household (PHBS) program for a second time in 2012 with the addition of two alert villages in 10 districts.  In 2011, APPI collaborated with the Centre of Health Promotion, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia to conduct the Healthy and Clean Life Behavior in the Household (PHBS) in five provinces and 10 districts.  The provinces included West Sumatra, West Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

5. WRA India Delegates Learn about Indonesia’s Desa Siaga Model

From February 4-7th, 2012, a delegation from WRA India (WRAI) visited Indonesia to learn about the Desa Siaga, or “Alert Village” model. Dr. Abdulah Cholil presented on the history of Desa Siaga, and then the delegation—accompanied by representatives of the WRA’s Global Secretariat, as well as members of APPI (WRA Indonesia)—visited Mekarjaya Village in Arjasari Sub-district in Bandung, which is about four hours from Jakarta.

It was a sunny clear day on Saturday, October 29, 2011 that WRA Indonesia’s Youth branch (RAPPI) gathered with members of the Honda Stream Community (a local club for owners of the Honda Stream) to commemorate Indonesian Youth Day. The aim of this "Young Generation in Safe Motherhood" activity was to educate young people about safe motherhood through a convoy along the route from Jakarta to Bandung, an awareness campaign and a talk show.

10. Learning Visit to Indonesia | WRA India Learns About the Desa Siaga Model

A team of six members from India visited Indonesia from February 4th-7th, 2012 to learn from the Desa Siaga model and its Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness (BP/CR) strategy to reduce maternal mortality. The team was comprised of representatives from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the government of Orissa, White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) and its WRA state representatives from Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
