Every Mother Counts

Acknowledging the dire need for improving the health status of mothers and children in Pakistan, Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly, pledged full support to women’s health at a function organized by White Ribbon Alliance Pakistan (WRA-P) at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU).  The function tilted Every Mother Counts was part of the International Women Day celebrations being jointed observed by WRA-P and FJWU.

Respectful Maternity Care Session Conducted at a Maternity Facility in Lahore, Pakistan

Muslim Charity, a faith-based INGO registered in the in UK is running a maternity care program which supports five hospitals in Pakistan. Recently Muslim Charity facilitated an interactive session on respectful maternity care at one of Muslim Charity-supported maternity facilities in possibly the most deprived area of Lahore, Pakistan. The session, attended by administrative and clinical staff including the pharmacy team, aimed to introduce a rights-based approach to maternity care by introducing the Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) Charter developed by the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood.

White Ribbon Alliance Malawi Uses Innovative Ways to Reduce Maternal Deaths in Mangochi District

Recently a team from White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) Global Secretariat and WRA Malawi members visited Njereza area in Mangochi district where WRA Malawi has its district chapter. A hard-to-reach area, Njereza is located 12 Kilometers away from the main road and 35 Kilometers from the nearest health facility. Before WRA Mangochi’s community mobilization efforts, it was common for women to deliver at home with the help of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and without access to antenatal clinic. There were cases of maternal deaths due to post-partum hemorrhage and fistula due to prolonged labor. Practices that put mothers and children at risk, such as domestic violence and early marriages, were rampant.
