From February 4-7th, 2012, a delegation from WRA India (WRAI) visited Indonesia to learn about the Desa Siaga, or “Alert Village” model. Dr. Abdulah Cholil presented on the history of Desa Siaga, and then the delegation—accompanied by representatives of the WRA’s Global Secretariat, as well as members of APPI (WRA Indonesia)—visited Mekarjaya Village in Arjasari Sub-district in Bandung, which is about four hours from Jakarta.

India's popular classical vocalist Shubna Mudgal composed a new single “Aakhir Kyon” in support of safe motherhood. The new single was launched at a free concert to support White RIbbon Alliance India.

In support of White Ribbon Alliance India, popular Indian classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal composed a new song Aakhir Kyon? posing the question "when birth is life, how can this be allowed to be the cause of death?"

Community health clinics and hospitals in India struggle with insufficient infrastucture, unable to provide an adequate number of beds or supply of blood for their patients. As a result maternal health suffers, and women needlessly die from complications in pregnancy.

White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood leaders participated in the first regional meeting of Girls Not Brides: A Global Partnership to End Child Marriage.   Held in New Delhi, India from 9-10 February 2012, this meeting brought together 70 women and men from a range of grassroots, national and international organisations working to end child marriage across South Asia.

WRA India Member Nupur Sachdeva reports on her experience volunteering at the White Ribbon Alliance's famous Mum's Tattoo Parlour:  For me, attending the Jaipur Literature Festival was almost like attending a page three party, bumping into many famous people– authors, speakers, lyricists, designers and other media personalities. The lit fest was littered with the glitterati: musicians and singers, playwrights and journalists, all milling around in the crowded grounds.

A team of six members from India visited Indonesia from February 4th-7th, 2012 to learn from the Desa Siaga model and its Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness (BP/CR) strategy to reduce maternal mortality. The team was comprised of representatives from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the government of Orissa, White Ribbon Alliance India (WRAI) and its WRA state representatives from Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
