WRA India Organizes Concert Dedicated to Safe Motherhood
Surviving childbirth is a fundamental right of every woman. Yet, in India, one woman dies every eight minutes from a pregnancy-related cause. With almost 60,000 women in India dying of pregnancy related causes every year, an estimated 350,000 children are orphaned. A total of 90,000 families are devastated as a result of this tragedy. As for the motherless children, their plight can only be imagined. Such children are up to 10 times more likely to die within two years than those who have parents who are living.
On 26th March, 2012, the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood of India, held a special concert to increase public awareness on the need to prevent maternal death, where nationally renowned musician Shubha Mudgal released a song dedicated to Safe Motherhood.
