International Women's Day in Burkina Faso
Under the theme, "Social mobilization for reducing maternal mortality: the role of men," Dédougou, a town situated about 232 km from Ouagadougou, celebrated International Women's Day. The national level activities in Burkina Faso associated with International Women’s Day reflect the impact of the ARB / BF on the safe motherhood movement in Burkina Faso:
Outreach meeting with Parliamentarians
Leading up to the commemoration of March 8, members of the ARB / BF met with MPs from the region of Mouhoun. The MPs were able to understand the situation of maternal mortality in Burkina Faso and the involvement of the ARB / BF in the promotion of maternal and newborn health. They have now committed to joining the Alliance in the fight against maternal mortality by registering as a member of the ARB / BF.
Blood Donation
Lack of blood is one of the major causes of maternal mortality in Burkina Faso, and so the ARB / BF organized a blood drive at the Departmental Arbolle school on March 6th. The activity had a strong involvement of students. More than 75 students gave their blood to save the lives of mothers and newborns.
