Sarah Brown is the Global Patron of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood and has been a leading voice in the global maternal mortality campaign. During her time at 10 Downing Street as the wife of former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Sarah was a constant champion for maternal and infant health. She hosted and chaired many events for campaigners and activists at home and abroad, addressed the World Health Assembly’s Annual General Meeting as well as the International Confederation of Midwives annual meeting, and took the Chair at the United Nations for the special meeting to announce the end of healthcare user fees for pregnant women in 16 countries. She also sits on the international board of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London, and was made a Fellow of the RCOG in 2011.

Last year, she was also awarded the prestigious Global Leadership Award from the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, as well as recognition with the Vision & Impact Award from GBC Health.

Sarah Brown is also President of children’s charity PiggyBankKids and Patron of a number of charities including Women's Aid, Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres and SHINE Education Trust.  She is CEO of the Office of Gordon and Sarah Brown established to continue their work in causes that matter most to them. Sarah has joined the High Level Panel for Global Education established by the Global Campaign for Education co-chaired by Gordon Brown and Graca Machel, where she will use her voice to make the link between health and education especially for girls.

Sarah published her memoir ‘Behind the Black Door’ describing life at 10 Downing Street, and her engagement with the maternal mortality campaign. She is an early adopter of Twitter with well over a million followers tweeting as @SarahBrownUK.

Sarah and Gordon live in Scotland with their two young sons, John and Fraser.
